The Effect of Crude Drugs on the Alcohol Metabolism of Rabbits


Abstract
In the oriental medicine, the mixture of Puerariae Radix, Glycyrrhizae Radix, Atractylis Rhizoma, Aurantii nobilis Pericarpium, and Machirli Cortex is frequently administered by oral route for treatment of alcoholic disorder.
In order to determine the influence of these drugs on alcohol content in the body,
the blood level of alcohol in rabbits was measured by Widmark¢¥s method.
The extract of these whole mixture produced the lowest blood level of alcohol in the
rabbits.
The extracts of Puerariae Radix, and of Glycyrrhizae Radix also produced the lowering of blood level of alcohol in the rabbits, however the effect was less than that of the extract of these whole mixtur.
The other kind of elude drugs produced no significant effect on the blood level of alcohol in the rabbits.
